Biographical history:: <p>George Buchan (1837-1917) was the father of Gertrude and Harry Buchan, who fostered Lore during the Second World War. With his wife Mary Ann Thomas (1839-1918), he had five sons and two daughters. Harry and Gertrude’s older brother Herbert Edward Buchan (1873-1942) married Ellen Jane Dimmick (1879-1954); her sister’s will is included in the collection.</p><p>Harry Buchan was related to another George Buchan (1825-1911) via marriage: he was Harry’s father’s brother-in-law who married Eleanor Mary Buchan, the sister of George Buchan (1837-1917), in 1874. He was forester to the Duke of Rutland.</p>
