Biographical history:
<p>George Buchan (1837-1917) was the father of Gertrude and Harry Buchan, who fostered Lore during the Second World War. With his wife Mary Ann Thomas (1839-1918), he had five sons and two daughters. Harry and Gertrude’s older brother Herbert Edward Buchan (1873-1942) married Ellen Jane Dimmick (1879-1954); her sister’s will is included in the collection.</p><p>Harry Buchan was related to another George Buchan (1825-1911) via marriage: he was Harry’s father’s brother-in-law who married Eleanor Mary Buchan, the sister of George Buchan (1837-1917), in 1874. He was forester to the Duke of Rutland.</p>

Buchan scrapbook with newspaper cuttings on the family's activities (1875-1968).

George Buchan: marriage certficate, will (handwritten copy) and letter (1864-[1965])..

Claris Luisa Dimmick: death certificate (1952).

Letter sent by Lore to the Duke of Rutland, returning his letters to George Buchan (Harry Buchan's uncle by marraige), with copies of the letters (1999).

Notes on Buchan family tree ([2010]).

Badges and medals collected by the Buchans (from, for example, the Red Cross, the Church Missionary Society's 1922 Africa and the East exhibition in Islington, the Women's League of Health and Beauty, and the Young Helpers).
