- <p>Lore’s brother Friederich Albert Heimann, known as Albert, was born on born on 18 December 1921 in Elberfeld (Wuppertal). </p><p>He went to Britain in February 1939 as an apprentice with a Mr Papier to study engineering. After the outbreak of the war, he was classified as a “B” category enemy alien. He was deported to Australia on the Dunera. In Australia he worked on irrigation schemes. After returning to Britain in 1942, he worked first for Mr Papier and then for a chemical company called Marchon owned by two refugees (Mr Marzillier and Mr Schon). This firm moved to Whitehaven, Cumbria, and Albert went with it. </p><p> Albert acted as interpreter for the American army in Frankfurt-am-Main immediately after the war and was the first of the three children to see his parents again, at Easter in April 1946. </p><p> On 14 July 1951, Albert married Susi Goldschmidt (b. 1951), Lore’s childhood friend from Wuppertal, who had been sheltered by nuns in Germany during the war. They had three children, Michael, Miriam and Rebecca. He died on 9 May 1995.</p>
